B21: Five-ball Individual Matchplay: the Classic but Underused Golf Game.

Five-ball individual match play is many golfers’ favourite informal game, with its thrilling emphasis on attacking play!

When five friends turn up for a game of golf, there is nothing more sociable than to play a game of individual match-play in a five, rather than have to split up into a three and a two, or, worse still, abandon one friend and play in a four!

Unfortunately, match play in a four is currently the maximum grouping permitted by most golf clubs, due to concerns about slow play.

BriskerGolf.am is a website that introduces a pure golf game that includes modifications to the rules of classic R&A golf, and to traditional golfing etiquette, principally in order to facilitate brisker play on a course.

Furthermore, mindful that there is no R&A rule that prohibits five-ball play, the creation of BriskerGolf  is a deliberate attempt to introduce a viable five-ball individual match play golf game that will always be played at an acceptably brisk pace, by novice golfer, accomplished amateur golfer, and elite Professional golfer alike!

BriskerGolf is also an innovative way of growing the game of golf:

• The game itself encapsulates everything that is fabulous about golf! It has a delicious duality of intense competition, oscillating with committed team-play, on every hole! There is drama, comedy, tragedy, social interaction, camaraderie, business networking, athletic skill and pure luck, in abundance. And for both victors and also-rans there is the opportunity for a philanthropic ending!
• Golfers new and old will be attracted by the prospect of playing a brisker round!
• Golf course owners and committees will experience the efficiency of a strictly regulated five-ball game, compared to standard four-ball formats, and possibly three-ball formats, with courses being able to accommodate more golfers per day, by encouraging BriskerGolf.
• The prospect of multi-round, multiple course, BriskerGolf competitions (as five-ball games), for all levels of golfers, at local, regional, national and international level, is enticing!

The intention is not to petition for changes to the rules of R&A golf, but rather to introduce an option to R&A golf, that can co-exist with the historic game.

In time it is hoped that the notion of BriskerGolf will filter through to all forms of informal and formal match play games, and to some stroke play games, and that it will cause golfers to rethink the efficiency of their progress on a golf course.
